AIMSS Advanced Integrated Modular Sleep System USA Made
The Advanced Integrated Modular Sleep System has been designed to replace the current archaic Modular Sleeping Bag System (Hereafter referred to as the MSBS) by addressing its many deficiencies.
The current MSBS was designed over 25 years ago using what is now obsolete materials and design. The MSBS bivy cover lacks the ability to completely protect the occupant without the risk of suffocation. The 2 sleeping bags Patrol and Intermediate use a nylon weave outer shell which can easily become wet allowing the fill material to also become wet and both loose their insulating and protecting properties. In addition both materials take very long to dry even under ideal conditions. Further the polyester batting used as insulation in both current sleeping bags is heavy and dose not compact down as well when rolled up and dose not regain its loft quick enough after being compressed. Also after repeated washings the Polyester batting breaks down and dose not retain its loft. Overall the batting material doses not provide a good warmth to weight ratio and allows for cold spots.
The Advanced Integrated Modular Sleep System (Hereafter referred to as AIMSS) uses cutting edge materials and design to produce the most versatile and easy to use sleep system available. The AIMSS is lighter in weight and has less bulk than the current MSBS.
The outer shell or bivy of the AIMSS allows the occupant to be completely protected from the elements under the harshest conditions without the risk of suffocation. While it can be used in the same manner of the current bivy bag its design enhancements feature:
The addition of a No-See-um mesh screen covering the upper chest and face area provides excellent ventilation the occupant is protected from biting insects as well. An attached weather proof flap is provided to completely cover the screen and seal out the elements. The flap can be positioned in various places along two hook and loop strips to provide ventilation and weather protection. When not in use the flap rolls up and is secured out of the way. The bivy also features 5 attached webbing straps to secure the bivy to the ground in high windy conditions.
The bivy as well as the 2 inner bags feature dual zippers with dual sliders one on each side allowing the occupant to sit up in the bivy and bags without the optional hoop in place. The bivy also features an optional hoop and tunnel hood which can be purchased separately to protect the occupant from wind, rain and snow. The hoop is set up easily by attaching it via hook and loop closure and with 2 sets of light-weight aluminum shock corded poles that slide through the provided pole sleeves and secure into the pole pockets. The Bivy hoop attachment comes with a hood, 2 sets of light-weight shock-corded poles, 5 light-weight stakes, 2 elastic ropes with end clips and a stuff pouch. This is a great feature when you need the protection of a tent without the added weight and bulk.
The inner 2 bags of the AIMSS are constructed using Epic Peak by Nextec for the outer shells of both the Patrol and Intermediate bags. The Epic Peak fabric is water resistant, windproof, breathable and washable and offers all weather protection. The fill is Primaloft insulation which compacts down real small and retains its loft when set up. It also features excellent warmth to weight ratio. The inner bags both feature dual sliding zippers on each side of the bag that can be opened from either end for ventilation. The dual zippers also allow the occupant to sit up inside the sleeping bag (s) to work or use radio equipment without exiting the bag (s). Further the 2 inner bags feature 3 adjustable sleeping matt straps on the bottom of the bags which secure the issue self inflating sleeping pad or closed cell foam pad. All bags of the system attach together with hook and loop fasteners to prevent them from moving around.
The AIMSS Also allows troops on patrol to sleep sitting up in any or all parts of the system with their rifle in hand while being mostly protected from the elements. The system also features 2 compression sacks one small one large for compressing and carrying any one or all parts of the system. The optional bivy hood stores easily with the system by placing it at the foot of either the sleeping bags and or bivy and rolling it up with the bags and placing all parts into the compression bag for ease of carrying. In closing this is the most versatile and comprehensive sleep system ever offered to the US Armed forces.
System includes
1 Bivy Bag
1 Patrol Bag
1 Intermediate Cold Bag
1 Compression sack
System weight 9 LBS 3oz
Compresses down to approximately 22 X 14 inches
Please Note:
This is a prototype of a sleep system and was never issued to the US Armed Forces. Being that it is a prototype the bivy while made of waterproof material it is not seam sealed and has some missing velcro closure tabs. We have no temperature rating for the sleeping bags. One is a heavier insulated intermediate cold bag and the other is a patrol bag. Both are black you can easily tell the difference by the weight of the bags.
100% USA Made
Brand New Prototype
Note: There are no holes or tears in any of the components the system is brand new. One photo looks like the bag has a hole it does not it is glare from lighting.
Never completely seal yourself up in any bivy bag always leave about 6 inches opening to allow for the exchange of fresh air and avoid suffocation.
A very rare functional sleep system at a reasonable price.
